We meet as book clubs once each week during all lunch periods. Each grade is reading a different book. In addition to discussing some great books, we do other fun things in book club. We occasionally share pot luck lunches, especially to celebrate holidays. We've also been known to meet as a group to see a movie that's tied to a book we've read or are reading.
Book Clubs will start this year on Wednesday, September 13.
We'll be celebrating Halloween with a pot luck lunch on Wednesday, November 1 (the day after Halloween). Bring something to share with everyone else in your grade level club. Although it's the day after Halloween and you will have lots of candy, you may want to bring something other than just sweets. While sweets are good, too many of them at lunch will make you sluggish during the afternoon and possibly give you a tummy ache.
6th Grade Book Club
Most 6th Grade Book Club members will start the year off by reading The 5th Wave as a club. This was one of the most popular books on campus last year and was the one most our members immediately wanted to read. For those who want to read something a little less violent, we have chose The Honest Truth. We handed out the books last week, and will be reading the first chapter together as a group on the Sep. 20 meeting.
Oct 18 update - We are reading to page 233.
7th Grade Book Club
Our second selection this year is The Nest. We'll be reading to page 70 for next week.
8th Grade Book Club
We will be reading Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. Challenger Deep won the National Book Award 2 years ago. It's a story about a boy with schizophrenia and was inspired by Shusterman's son's battle with mental illness. The books have arrived and we'll be reading the first chapter together on Wednesday, Sep. 20.
Oct 18 Update - Read to page 239.
