Welcome to Yearbook 26-27!
We are off and rolling. I'm Michelle Kane and I am the Yearbook teacher here at CPMS. I am very excited about this school year and looking forward to seeing what we design!
~Fun fact--yearbooks are already being sold even though we haven't designed anything or edited any photos~
I have 2 yearbook classes this year- that's almost 60 student journalists! We have a big job to do, but I think I've "hired" the right staff to get it all done. In order to make the best book we can, it takes everyone working together and collaborating: my staff, me, and you!
Important details:
Full Yearbook Staff Meeting: Thursday 9/17 9-12:30
All Yearbook Staff members will be participating in a full staff meeting during the school day. Attendance is required. Students will be marked as attending an on-campus event and we will work together to notify their teachers and help them stay caught up on work.
This meeting allows us to do some large group team building, share out our theme ideas so we can nail down our design, and design class shirts
Senior Staffers (those who were in Yearbook last year) will help plan and manage this meeting, including: planning teambuilding games, bringing in snacks, setting up the room, and grouping staffers
Equipment Management & Agreements
All students who requested to join Yearbook were required to affirm the following when they submitted their interest form:
to behave professionally
follow safety protocols
improve their journalistic & life skills
ability to travel/attend outside of school events
equipment use & care
Cameras
we currently have 12 available cameras for almost 60 students to share
it is imperative that students keep up with and take care of these cameras & lenses
there is a check out/check in system students must use in order to borrow a camera or lens
students cannot give the camera or lens to another person to hold while at an event**
exceptions to this are: me, another staffer, a parent
students ARE allowed to use their own cameras if they have them, but they are responsible for these
SD Cards
Students will be assigned an SD card
they are responsible for keeping up with it must turn it in at the end of the year
students must empty and format the card before returning the card
students must have it with them every day-- this is often one of our grades
Press Passes
students will be issued a press pass
Press Passes are required to be worn when on assignment
students must have it with them every day-- this is often one of our grades
Shirts
Students are required to wear a Yearbook shirt when they are on assignment and on days determined by the class
to start the year, they will be receiving a "temporary" shirt until we have our official shirts
students will be required to keep the temporary shirt clean and return it at the end of the year
Every year, Yearbook Staffers put together designs for a personalized class shirt then vote on their favorite
There will be a charge for these shirts as I am not allowed to use Yearbook funds to purchase items students will be keeping
shirts usually run around $20-25
when the time comes, if your student cannot afford the shirt, please let me know. We may have a couple of scholarship opportunities available.
"Overtime Hours"
This year, we are implementing "Overtime Hours" to better align with the CPHS Journalism team.
An overtime hour is time outside of the yearbook class period when a staffer is "on assignment"
Leopard Yearbook Staffers are required to get 2 overtime hours per grading cycle(except this first one)
this can be accomplished in the following ways:
attending an extracurricular event (think band concert, football game, track meet, etc.)
going to a club meeting before or after school or during lunch
using extra class time from another class (with teacher permission)
The purpose of the overtime hours requirement is:
to allow us to better capture the CPMS school community
to encourage more participation from more Yearbook Staffers
to further improve our journalism skills
