Middle School Transition
Leander I.S.D. likes to ensure that students have a smooth transition from elementary into middle school. This is a day where 5th graders visit the middle school they will attend next school year. Your child’s visit to Four Points Middle School is scheduled for Friday, March 2nd. Bus transportation will be provided. Permission slips for this event will be given out through homeroom teachers in mid-February.
The students will tour the school, attend a PEP Rally, see performances by various sports and fine arts groups, learn about middle school classes, and eat lunch. The students may use their school lunch accounts at FPMS on that day. They will simply use their account number as it will be the same number throughout the time they are in the district.
Students will also be making choices about their elective courses for 6th grade. Please be looking for these choice sheets to come home so that you can verify the elective your child has chosen and sign that you agree. Choice sheets should be signed and returned to students' homeroom teachers as soon as possible after our visit.
If you will be moving and your child will be attending a different campus in LISD other than the one that is listed, please contact me at 512-570-6816.
AVID Parent Night
AVID at Four Points Middle School
We at Four Points Middle School are so excited about the possibility of adding an academic elective course for our 6th grade students. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic elective course that prepares students for college readiness and success, and it is scheduled during the regular school day as a year‐long course. Each week, students receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by AVID Center, tutor‐facilitated study groups, motivational activities and academic success skills. In AVID, students participate in activities that incorporate strategies focused on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading to support their academic growth.
The sixth grade AVID Elective course is an introduction to the AVID philosophy. Students will develop awareness of the values accompanying academic goals and success. The course will focus on building self‐confidence and communication skills in working with peers and adults. Students will be exposed to reading strategies that will assist in vocabulary building and understanding a variety of texts, and will also focus on prewriting techniques, summary writing and structural components of note‐taking. The students will increase college and career awareness through guest speaker presentations, field trip opportunities and research.
FPMS will be having and AVID Parent Night for upcoming 6th grade students on Thursday, March 8th at 6:00. We will continue to share more information as we receive it from the Instructional Coach at FPMS, Tracey Barrientes. If you have any questions, her email is firstname.lastname@example.org and her phone number is 570-3700 Ext 43741.
