FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are e-books? Are there audio books, too?

E-books are electronic (digital) books that are like the physical books in every other way. And yes, there are also audio books you can listen to!

How can we borrow e-books from our library?

Instructions are to the right. --->

How long can I borrow them? Can I return them early? Can I renew them?

Two weeks is the loan period. Then, they simply "return" themselves if downloaded. If you choose, Read in Browser instead, you CAN return them when you want. (See more on that in the next answer.)

There is no renewal function, but you can check it out again if it is available.

How many can I have at a time?

Three. When we have increased our collection of LISD e-books, this limit may later be raised.

I tried to check out a title we have in our CPMS library, but it says I'm not allowed. Why?

Age-level permissions are sometimes wrong, and need to be changed. This occurs on a district level. You can submit a request to change the level HERE.

I'm having trouble downloading. Where can I go for help?

You can come to the library, and I will help you. Because there are many different devices, models, and software versions, it may be trial-and-error for me, too, but I can usually figure it out! There are also some demonstration videos on this page that will guide you. (Scroll down the center column for link.)

How do I access the wireless internet at school?

On your device, go to Settings, then Wireless or Connections (depending on device). Select "LISD-Wifi". Enter your usual LISD username and password. Leave Anonymous Username blank if it appears. Then, submit.

If you still cannot connect, come to the library so Ms. Nations can help you.

DIRECTIONS for downloading e-books and audio books from LISD's Overdrive to your laptop:

NOTE: Check out titles on the device you will use the e-book.

For laptops: While on your laptop, click HERE. Then bookmark it for future use.

Enter your Leander ISD Username and Password.

You can enter keywords in the search bar, simply browse, or use the tabs near the top to choose Subjects, Collections or Levels.

Black book icons indicate the book is Available for checkout. Gray book icons mean it is Unavailable, but you can click on it and place a Hold.

Click “Borrow”. (You can have up to 3 at a time.) Then click “Go to Checkouts” or “Account”.

IMPORTANT: If you want to be able to return books before they automatically return in 2 weeks, DO NOT CHOOSE DOWNLOAD YET!

Choose “Read In Your Browser”.

Click the icon on the upper right consisting of 3 stacked lines.

Click “Offline Access”, then “Download all pages for offline reading”.

Each book automatically returns after 2 weeks. Yay, no overdues!

If you prefer to download to Kindle, you will need a Kindle/Amazon account. Ask your parents to help you set one up, click Download to Kindle and follow the steps provided. You can read the book through a Kindle device, or the Kindle app on a smart device.

(You can download the ePUB file to your laptop, but it's unnecessary, plus will take up a lot of space, slow your computer and you won't be able to return voluntarily before 2 weeks.)

Quick Start for Smart Phones & Tablets

Download the OVERDRIVE app. IMPORTANT: Do not make a new account. An account has been created for you. Choose "Under 13 or have an account through your school?" Then search for Cedar Park Middle School, and select/star Leander ISD Libraries. Now you can browse!

(You can have up to 2 at a time.) Then click “Go to Checkouts” or “Account”.

Now, you have 2 choices: download the e-book file OR read in the Overdrive browser.

Downloading allows you to read anywhere without an internet connection, BUT it does place a small digital file on your device AND it does not allow you to return the book yourself. It returns automatically in 2 weeks.

Reading in the browser requires internet connection, BUT you can return the book anytime by clicking the Return This Book button, and get another one. Since you can only have 2 e-books out at a time, if you are a fast reader with internet connection where you will be reading, choose this option.
