Welcome to Mt. Pleasant Elementary. Each year we welcome about 100 new students to kindergarten and throughout the year we welcome many new families. We know transition to a new school is hard. We want to make this as smooth as possible for your family! Check out the information below to help you get to know our school routines!
Bus Riders will be dropped of in the bus loop on Allen Street - parents are not able to pull into this area (unless dropping off or picking up at our Morning and After School Child Care Center.
Walker and Vehicle Pickup enter at the front of the building. Students may not enter the building before 8:45. We ask that students wait in the car until this time to limit the number of students congregating near the front door.
While we enjoy volunteers, for school safety reasons, we ask for all students to walk into the building on their own.
Students will exit the building at various locations starting at about 3:25.
Walkers will exit the courtyard door and bus doors at 3:30.
K-1 students will be dismissed from the back Pod door. Parents are to line up on the sidewalk on the far left side of the building and students will be released to parents. Parents should not line up before 3:25 as we have recess prior to dismissal in this area.
K-1 students can be released to older siblings (siblings wait for them in the courtyard in a separate line) - safety is our number one priority when we are releasing students.
Please note that we will not have safety patrol for the first month or two of school until we can get this leadership group organized. Please walk your child to and from school if they need guidance crossing the roads.
Click here for a detailed map of pick up with descriptions of where students should exit the building.
You can give pick up information to your child's teacher or enter it here.
If your child is a Vehicle Pick up, you will be given a number card. Your child will only be called out to the car when your specific number is entered into the system. Families will receive 4 car placards - please distribute these to the adults that will pick up your child. Please place these in your windshield or the passenger side window.
Numbers remain the same from year to year for students. New students will receive their number on their first day of school (please expect delays the first week).
If your child is a walker, your family will still receive a placard. Please hold on to this throughout the year. This is number would also be used if we need to relocate from the building for any safety reason.
Any changes in dismissal need to be communicated to the office by noon.
If your child will be tardy or absent from school, please call the office prior to school (you may leave a message prior to the office opening).
If someone is picking up your child and does not have a vehicle number, we will confirm that the office was called to allow this change (please call into the office to inform us as this slows our vehicle pick up time). It typically takes 20 minutes to dismiss all of our students - safety is our number one priority when we are releasing students.
Celebrations are important - if you want to send in a birthday treat, you are welcome to do that - they must follow the guidelines below.
If you are celebrating a birthday in the classroom, please communicate with the teachers two to three days in advance.
All birthday treats need to be individually wrapped, store bought and have an ingredient label for student safety.
Students must be able to carry in the snack for the class.
All classrooms have a sink and drinking fountain. It is not necessary for a child to bring a water bottle to school.
Check out our district wellness guidelines for some examples and ideas.
If you are joining us at the beginning of the year, we ask that students bring supplies on the first day of school.
Families that join us after the start of the year can bring supplies from their previous school - we will work to help make sure your child has what they need (the teacher may ask for a few specific items, but you do not need to repurchase supplies for the year).
Some school supplies are shared between students, but we do our best to limit this.
We do use items such as wipes, baggies and paper towels for community use. These are stored by the teacher at the start of the year and distributed as needed.
We are a Leader in Me School. The Leader in Me is FranklinCovey’s whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader.
This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

We also use our habits to ensure that all students are following the school expectations. Take some time to review our school-wide habits below.
As part of our social emotional curriculum at Mt. Pleasant Elementary, we learn about the 7 Habits during our 2nd and 7 family time.
We embed these habits into everything we do from learning how to create goals to synergizing with others to solve problems.
