At Lancaster High School, the ninth grade academy is all about easing the transition from middle school to high school. It is truly a school within a school. For the first half of the day 9th graders are housed together in core academic courses. The second half of the day, 9th graders take classes to prepare them for their future careers with 9-12th graders in the classrooms.

I am the only counselor who works with 9th grade students. This allows first time 9th grade students an opportunity to get to know an adult at Lancaster High School who is is an advocate for student success. On any given day, I can be found in hallways, classrooms, or in my office all working towards the goal of helping 9th graders become 10th graders. Some topics I am most proud in helping 9th graders address are:

    • developing healthy relationships

    • understanding the process of taking healthy risks

    • planning for their academic and career related futures

    • processing conflict resolution with a win-win attitude
