Beta Club

This page, and club, is a work in progress- and we hope to have a website dedicated to Beta Club very soon to keep you updated as we sponsors work toward building the club from the ground up! For now, I'll use this page for volunteer opportunities only and Google Classroom for documents, updates, and announcements. You and a parent can sign up for remind 101 with link below to receive text reminders, too!

  • Mrs. Cloer in the library has a need for 4 volunteers on Friday, November 10th from 5:30-7:30pm at the Literacy Fair. We have two mascot costumes, Clifford, the Big Red Dog, and Geronimo Stilton, that we would like middle school students to wear at the fair. In costume, the students would need to mingle with the crowd and pose for photo opportunities. Depending on the number of students interested, we could arrange a schedule for the students to take turns. EMAIL MRS. CLOER TO DISCUSS THE POSSIBILITY AT: Michelle.Cloer@lcsdmail.net
    • ***Additional Media Center Opportunities:
      • Sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBk851yvUgxwY2y7aRRE3gYr0-G4lgzIk14y5RmHMa6ARJew/viewform (Updated 11/8/17 @ 6:35 pm...this should work now guys!!!)
          • Library Maintenance: Routine dusting, shelf straightening, cleaning desks, tables, and computers, and occasional vacuuming.
          • Non-fiction Dewey Shelving Project: Several students could participate. I would like students to help reorder the non-fiction books in exact Dewey order. This would require a commitment of multiple volunteer hours, and some training.
          • Displays: New bulletin board ideas and displays, as needed. These helpers should be concerned with neatness. The first thing I would have students do is remove and/or replace paper and borders. Then students would decorate the boards with items that I provide. Creative input would be welcomed!

As Beta Club members, it is your responsibility to find opportunities. You are leaders which means you are independent thinkers. I will guide you in the right direction if you need help with ideas, but you need to reach out to your community to find out how you can help!

  • THE FOLLOWING TEACHERS HAVE MENTIONED THAT THEY NEED HELP IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE SOME TEACHERS WHO'VE INDICATED THEY NEED HELP ON SPECIFIC DAYS. This is NOT a requirement so it therefore is your responsibility to reach out to the teachers. I'm just trying to help you get a kick-start on your service hours.
    • Ms. Icard needs help cleaning her desks tomorrow, Friday, January 5th after school.
    • Mrs. M. Lail (6th grade science) needs help ONCE A WEEK cleaning her room.
    • Mr. Evans needs help in the mornings cleaning his board and desks.
    • Mrs. Shaw needs help cleaning her desks after school.
    • Ms. Gazes will take whoever! Her tutoring times are Wed/Thurs after school until 3:50 or you can come during lunch time if they are 7th graders and she do not have duty. You will just have to check with her each Monday. She has plenty that you can help with!
    • Ms. Bullard (see way up above ^^^^) is still needing help as an ongoing basis.
    • Mrs. Alexander (8th grade guidance counselor) has a variety of tasks she needs help with...check with her on the days and times.
    • Mrs. Loyd (located in the media center) needs help filing books, cleaning desks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Or you can check with her to see if you can help based on your available times.
    • Mrs. Wooten: I am in my classroom Tuesday-Friday from 7:25-8:00. After school I can stay until about 4:00 if needed. I don’t mind if students came to me on their own time to check with me about when they can come to help.
    • Mrs. Petty: I could use some helpers. Kiddos can help clean my tables, counters and organize some supplies, brushes, etc. I also have a messy job - if someone doesn't mind getting their hands dirty - literally. I need someone willing to do clay prep. Involves "chunking" the clay, watering, etc. Messy! I can show them what to do. PLEASE WAIT ON AN ANNOUNCEMENT HERE FOR A DATE/TIME THAT MRS. PETTY WILL NEED HELP.
      • ADDED AS OF 2/7/18- IF YOU NEED ADDITIONAL HOURS AND CANNOT STAY AFTER OR COME INTO SCHOOL BEFORE, READ THE FOLLOWING OPPORTUNITY!
      • March is Youth Art Month. Petty has some advertising that we will be completed around the school. If anyone wants to come in and pick up some take home sheets to complete and return (maybe 20 minutes credit per sheet) that would be great. Mrs. Petty MUST have the sheets back and they need to be completed by February 21. See Mrs. Petty for details!
    • Mrs. Carter (computer lab near my room or around the corner from the band room)- I would like some cleaning in my room wiping down tables and computers. I am free in the mornings. I am usually in my room at 7:45 -9:00.

Some great volunteer ideas include checking out local soup kitchens, animal shelters, nursing homes and hospitals always need people to read or sit with folks, ask teachers for help with tasks in their classrooms (wink, wink), make meals for the homeless, pack Christmas boxes for soldiers. Go to Google and search "volunteer ideas." There are ample opportunities.

Below you will find the paperwork that we passed out at the initial interest meeting.
