The Aztec Empire

The Aztec Empire in Central Mexico is one of the greatest empires to ever be built. The Aztecs became a dominant force in Mexico and grew their society into a political, religious and commercial power. The early Aztec people are believed to be hunter -gatherers in northern Mexico. When the Aztecs traveled south they saw and eagle on top of a cactus. They took this as a sign to stop and settle there.This settlement would be there capitol city of Tenochtitlan, present day Mexico city. By 1519 the Empire's conquest and exploration was at its peak until August 1521 when the last Aztec emperor surrendered to the Spanish.
