Roman Empire

The Roman empire grew to become the most extensive political and social structure of of the west. It all began with the first Emperor of Rome Augustus Caesar in 27 BC. It had great success in expanding but soon it had became too extensive that having only one central government was no longer working, so in 285 CE emperor Diocletian decided to separate it into 2, the Western and Eastern Empire. In 476 CE the Western Empire fell when the last roman emperor Romulus Augustus was forced of of duty by the Germanic King Odoacer. The Eastern empire on the other had continued as the Byzantine Empire, until the death of Constantine XI in 143 CE. The Roman Empire has had a great influence on the western cultures, in fact many of its aspects are still present to this day on them.
