YOU MATTER!
There will be a daily message posted. I believe that every single person in our classroom community is valuable and important. To help communicate that to you every day, I write a message for you. It's to remind you that YOU MATTER. I see you and hear you. I miss you when you aren't here and you are an important part of our team. Let's work together and try to make each other really feel the meaning of these words, YOU MATTER.

What Communications Means to Me

Most kids think Communications is all about the fun, or sometimes stress, of filming the B-AM News. And they would take partial credit in that answer! Though when you really take a deeper look inside Communications you will find that there are More Things To Do. One huge thing that seventh-grade Communications revolves around would be what is called the 5 C’s. Those being Critical Thinking, Creativity, Contribution, Collaboration, and of course, Communication. Being in Communications means you’re graded on the 5 C’s much like you would be graded in Band or Orchestra for participation. So it’s not as easy as pushing record and laying back.

Another thing that kids assume we don’t do is Projects. Yes, they follow you everywhere you go. A few things that the Communications classes will do projects on would be things like Photography and Podcasting, these allow you to learn the skills of how to properly take “good photographs” and record well-revised Podcasts that you make yourself!

Communications originally started as a small project in the opening year of Brambleton Middle School, with a small class of 17 students led by Ms. Haseltine. In the second year of the class, they reached over 70 members and could expand on the ideas of the class. Students in Communications earned the privilege to go and film fun segments for the entire school to enjoy, grow closer with their fellow classmates, and learn how to edit photos and videos with computer software. All of these are great experiences and help to build skills that not many other classes would be able to teach.

It’s the students' jobs to come up with new and unique ways to solve problems alongside the teacher. In some cases, students also come up with new projects or segments!

So whether you want to be a movie star or you feel like your talent lies elsewhere, Communications is the place for you!
