Welcome to 5th-grade! I am so excited to get to know my new students this August. Get ready for an EPIC year.
I grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia and I moved to Charlottesville last year. I love exploring the city and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains! I recently got married to my husband, Jim, this past June. We love living in Charlottesville with our dog, Oscar. I graduated from James Madison University...GO DUKES! I love going back to Harrisonburg for JMU football games!
As a teacher, I work very hard to create a trusting and supportive learning environment; but I can't do all of the work! I have very high expectations for the work my students do, because I believe we can all achieve more than we think we can. Those high expectations also apply to my students' behavior, as I expect all students to be respectful and responsible. Students in my classroom will follow the Fox Way and be respectful to adults, peers, the classroom, and themselves. Students will be responsible for themselves and finishing their work on time and with their best effort. Together, we will be curious, driven, and comfortable with making mistakes. In my classroom, I place a focus on failing forward. Failing forward means that when we do fail, we accept it, reflect, and allow the mistake to push us forward!
When I'm not teaching, I love watching movies, listening to music, dancing, hiking, spending time with my family, and crafting! I recently traveled to Durgapur, India to teach 3rd graders. I met some amazing people and I hope to return one day. I LOVE to travel and I have been to three different continents! I can't wait to learn more about you!
