Competition Tips

New to band? Here are some tips for newbie parents, families, and friends about what to expect at your first competition

    • There is an admission charge. Some allow kids under a certain age in for free, but not always. Typically admission gates only take cash.

    • Most competitions will have concessions. However, be warned that some of the longer competitions run out of main food items, so don't wait around until the awards or departure time to eat.

  • We encourage you to show your support of our Marching Lions by wearing show shirts, band spirit wear, or other LC attire.

  • Most competitions sell "shout-outs" (proud parent announcements) and/or have director cash/coin challenges. For these, it is best to have cash on hand.

  • Be prepared for long days. This can include bringing stadium seats and blankets to sit on and appropriate outerwear attire depending on the forecast. Bands will likely still perform in the rain as long as there is no lightning.

  • Please bring something to entertain siblings silently. The stands need to be quiet during all performances.

  • Arrive with time to park, enter through the gates, and find seating prior to our band's performance time. Bleachers are closed for entry and exit during performances. Please be respectful of noise while schools are performing.

  • SPORTSMANSHIP! Please remember that these are students showcasing their musical skills and be supportive of everyone.

  • Please ensure that your student gets enough sleep, arrives on time, and is 100% prepared with all needed items. These students are a team, and every single student is needed for a successful show.

  • Have fun! Enjoy the moment and remind your student to have fun and be proud of themselves.
