Title 1 Reading At JES

Title 1 is a federally funded program to help students receive more support in the areas of reading. JES, as well as the other three Louisa Elementary schools, has a school wide Title 1 program. Any student in K-5 may receive services. The students receive small group instruction on any skill that they are learning about in that grade. Title 1 provides parent involvement as well.

Title One Goals

To diagnose and identify specific reading problems in each eligible student.

To supplement and support (not replace) the classroom reading instruction.

To foster an enjoyment of books and to encourage reading as a leisure activity.

To develop a positive attitude and self-confidence by providing reading success.

To formulate and implement plans that will improve students’ reading skills.

To obtain parental support and involvement in our program.

Title I provides financial assistance to school divisions and schools with high numbers and/or percentages of children from low-income families. This is done to ensure that all children meet state academic standards and are given the highest quality of instruction possible at all times.
