NERSC 50th Anniversary
Science as Art
Competition

To help visualize 50 years of NERSC-powered discoveries, you are invited to enter NERSC’s Science as Art competition. 

The contest is open to any NERSC user (past or present) or member of a science team that used NERSC in their research. Submissions must be based on the results of simulation or analysis primarily performed using NERSC resources. 

Winners will be determined by the community of NERSC users and staff and will be honored at the NERSC 50th anniversary celebration in October.  (Full rules follow.)

Submissions open June 17, 2024. For full consideration, please submit your work by August 1.

Rules

• Animations (movies) and still images are both acceptable.

• Submissions should be visually attractive or intriguing.

• The calculations that produced the images must have been primarily performed on a NERSC system.

• Any published papers featuring the submissions should cite NERSC.

• Use of generative AI in the research is acceptable; use of generative AI to produce the image is not.

• Entrants may submit their own work or work from their research teams.

• Each submission should include the NERSC system(s) used, the year(s) the work was performed, and the project name(s)  and/or repo name (if known), a visualization, and a caption. 

Prizes

• A high-quality print (full image for static entrants; single cel for animations)

• Inclusion in a video showcase running in NERSC’s lobby

• Recognition at the NERSC 50th anniversary celebration

• A Zoom background available to the NERSC community

• The adulation of your peers
