Opportunities

We are looking for diverse, talented students to intern with us for
Summer 2022 (June - August 2022)!

Berkeley Lab’s Earth & Environmental Sciences Area (EESA) is a premier Earth sciences research organization where scientists tackle some of the most pressing environmental and energy challenges of the 21st century. There are opportunities available year-round to contribute as a student intern or student assistant toward helping us carry out our important work.

We are currently accepting applications from individuals interested in Summer 2022 internships (June - August 2022).

To apply for a 2022 Summer Internship with EESA, please take the following steps:

Applications due: Early Nov 2021 - Early Jan 2022 (depending on internship program)

  • Review this list of EESA summer student projects and identify which projects you’re interested in.

  • Email the Project Mentor and cc: Sandy Chin (schin@lbl.gov) to express your interest in their project and to see if you are a good fit. Provide a brief description of your motivation and/or experience, and include your CV/resume.

  • Review the table below of internships managed by Berkeley Lab's Workforce Development & Education Office. Identify which of the 2022 Summer Internship programs you are eligible for. (Important: Each program has different eligibility and application requirements – review the requirements carefully.)

  • APPLICATION LINKS ARE BELOW. In your application, please identify the EESA Project Title and Mentor of the projects for which you would like to be considered.

  • Successful candidates will be notified of their internship offer around February–April 2022.

  • Summer internships will take place June–August 2022.

  • Undergraduate students (sophomores and above) are eligible.

Students must be accepted as GEM fellows at GEM member universities.

  • To participate in a Berkeley Lab summer internship as a GEM Fellow, students must be accepted as GEM fellows to Masters and PhD programs of GEM member universities. GEM fellows are required to complete an internship with a GEM member Employer, such as Berkeley Lab.

  • Doctoral students are eligible, if, at the time of application, you have advanced to Ph.D. candidacy and have established a defined graduate thesis project and graduate thesis advisor.
