This year's Annual Workshop for the EE HPC WG focuses on energy efficiency, sustainability and carbon-neutrality. The workshop engages a broad spectrum of participants. Participants & speakers from facilities and operationally-focused fields, as well as computer engineers and architects, are being included. This ensures more lively discussions and drives sharing of knowledge and lessons learned.
The two-day virtual workshop comprises multiple invited talks and technical sessions.
Dr. Andrew A. Chien presents an invited talk on large-scale sustainable systems. Andrew is the William Eckhardt Distinguished Service Professor in Computer Science, Director of the CERES Center for Unstoppable Computing, as well as Senior Computer Scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for the National Science Foundation’s Computing and Information Science and Engineering Directorate, and is a member of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration Information Science and Technology Study Group.
Johannes Leon Kirnberger presents an invited talk on policies and technologies surrounding sustainability and AI use cases, workloads, and system stack. Johannes is a policy consultant for AI and sustainability at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He is also a Guest Lecturer at the University of Munich teaching AI and sustainability policy. He previously led the program on climate action and biodiversity preservation at the Global Partnership on AI and the International Centre of Expertise in Montreal on AI.
Technical sessions include cooling systems, metrics, end-user motivations and system-level power measurements.
This is an annual workshop since 2010. Presentations from prior year's workshops are posted on the EE HPC WG website.
