YMCA Gymnastics provides opportunities for youth to build confidence, learn new skills, make friends, and increase activity. Our coaches strive to provide opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills while increasing strength, coordination, and agility. Team gymnasts learn how to set goals, fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, and most importantly have FUN! Our competitive team begins at USA Gymnastics level 2.
According to the County Health Rankings in 2016, 12% of youth in La Crosse County were living below the federal poverty line. The gymnastics department at our Y, provides over $44,000 in Financial Assistance annually, to enable over 3,900 children to experience gymnastics and parkour classes and camps.
Our Y competitive team competes against 17 other YMCA’s within the state of Wisconsin. We have a Wisconsin YMCA gymnastics committee that works with all the gymnastics directors in the state to organize competitions throughout the months of October through March. We compete following mainly the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic competitive program. The Houser YMCA offers level 2-9 gymnastics levels.
Level 2-5 is known as our “Compulsory” program, this means that everyone in these levels across the state competes the same routine that is choreographed by USA Gymnastics.
Level 6-9 is known as the “Optional” program where gymnasts are able to choose their own music and choreograph their own routines meeting skill criteria set by USA Gymnastics.
Every 8 years we are given new requirements for our competitive team, in June of 2029 we will be trained in on new routines for our compulsory gymnasts!
