Correct & Reteach: Inform student of detrimental effects of judging others. Remind student that teasing will not be tolerated in school and out. Discuss the importance of respect with peers, adults and even at home.
Restorative Tasks: 1 on 1 meeting in office with SSW. Ask student why they felt it was a necessary action to do so to student/ other individual. Ask student if this had ever occurred with them personally.
Replacement Behavior: Allow student to discuss their reasoning for teasing another student. Conduct a conversation on what respect is and how to keep one accountable of their own actions.
Consequences
Peer mediation conducted by SSW using “I” statements. Student(s) affected gives statements first.
Create a camaraderie system so students can establish healthier interactions and communication. Students will be asked to interact with students involved in situation during lunch recess and engage in healthy play.
Increase participation of student with leadership opportunities (i.e bucket squad, assisting with school led events.
Follow up (if needed)
If case persists, parent must be contacted to schedule meeting with student, SSW, parent and/or principal. Modified schedule may be necessary if behaviors do not improve.
