Correct & Reteach: Assess the degree of harassment. Inform student that these behaviors are not safe behaviors and discuss who was affected, who was a bystander, and witness. If harassment is of a serious degree (i.e physical, sexual), SSW must conduct 1 on 1 with student, and inform student that parents will be contacted.
Restorative Tasks: 1 on 1 meeting in office with SSW. Assess reasoning for student’s actions and provide transparency on detrimental effects of actions. Additionally, support from principal to assess situation may be helpful if harassment is extreme.
Replacement Behavior: Allow student to describe their actions and events that took place. Encourage processing of actions with SSW.
Consequences
Peer mediation monitored by SSW with students involved. “I” statements will be among guidelines.
Create camaraderie system so students can establish healthier interactions and communication.
Increase participation of student with leadership opportunities (i.e bucket squad, working alongside SSW to set up events)
Follow up (if needed)
If case is extreme, parent must be contacted to schedule meeting with student, SSW, parent and/or principal .
