How well do we know our principal, Mr. Khatchadourian?
Itzel and Edward went to find out!
ITZEL: Did you have a favorite sport when you were little?
MR. K: I played soccer when I was 8 years old. I played in elementary school and high school.
EDWARD: Did you ever get in trouble when you were younger?
MR. K: I got in trouble when I was standing by the principal's office and made fun of a drawing.
ITZEL: If you could be an animal, what would it be and why?
MR. K: I would be a jaguar or a panther because they are strong, they catch their prey, and they climb trees too.
EDWARD: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not at Sendak?
MR. K: Go to a Dodger game or watch a Dodger game .
ITZEL: What is the weirdest thing that ever happened to you?
MR. K: I got saved by a helicopter because we went on a different trail while hiking and got stuck. I was with six of my friends.
EDWARD: Do you have any special talents?
MR. K: I’m a good artist and I like to paint with watercolors.
ITZEL: If you were not a principal, what job would you want?
MR. K: If I were not a principal, I would be an architect because I like drawing and math. I would also like to make weird houses.
EDWARD: What is something about you that would surprise Sendak students?
MR. K: Something that would surprise Sendak students is that I’m a picky eater. I like my food crunchy, and I don’t like mushy food. Also, I don't like onions and mushrooms. Another thing that would surprise Sendak students is that recently when I turned 55, my daughter and son convinced me to get a tattoo!
Reflections: Interviewing the school principal.
The Sendak Scoop Interviewers
interview each other.
ITZEL: Edward, how did you feel about interviewing our principal?
EDWARD: I felt nervous, but it was easy. I stayed calm and stayed happy the whole time. All I thought about were nice things because I like nice thoughts and they calm me down. I felt nervous at first and thought to myself, What if I made a weird sound? Well, luckily, I didn't.
ITZEL: Do you have any advice for other students who may conduct interviews in the future?
EDWARD: Some advice for future interviewers? Sure. Advice #1) Stay calm. If you stay calm, everything will go your way. Advice #2) Listen. If you listen, you will understand everything so even if you didn't write everything down, you will still remember it. Advice #3) Don't appear bored. If you look bored, the person you're talking to might be sad because it will seem like you think his story is boring. Advice #4) Stay happy. If you stay happy in a good mood, everything will go your way.
EDWARD: How about you, Itzel? How did you feel?
ITZEL: I also felt nervous, but we did it! I was amazed when Mr.K told us about everything, but I was mostly nervous. One big thing that surprised me was when Mr.K said that he got a tattoo! Our principal has a tattoo! He even showed it to us! It was very cool.
EDWARD: What advice would you give to future interviewers?
ITZEL: Some advice for soon to be interviewers... #1) One thing that you should know is that when you start interviewing, you need to stay calm. This is important because if you don’t, you will start to lose your mind. #2) Don’t be super silly because if you are, you can go off topic. Plus, you need to be respectful to others, so no mean jokes about people or kids. #3)Don’t be rude. Being rude to me is really disrespectful, so don’t do that! #4) When you are taking notes don’t write so small because some adults can’t see that well without their reading glasses. #5) Don’t speak too loudly, because when you talk too loudly, adults will tell you to speak a little softer. Also, don't speak too softly because then adults can't hear you.
