Hi there! I’m Janelle Piva, and I’m excited to welcome you to my classroom, where I teach 11th Grade U.S. History and AP U.S. History (APUSH). Whether you're learning the foundations of our nation’s past or exploring college-level historical thinking, our class focuses on how democracy, identity, and change have shaped the United States. I believe history isn’t about memorizing facts but understanding the world around us. That’s why I use project-based learning to help students apply their knowledge in creative, real-world ways. My teaching is grounded in equity, collaboration, and the belief that every student’s voice matters.
I hold a master’s degree in history and am a native Californian who grew up between the Midwest and New York, bringing a mix of regional perspectives to my teaching. I’ve traveled to 17 countries, and I love all things history and maps. When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me enjoying fantasy books, playing video games, or experimenting in the kitchen. I’m here to support you every step of the way, and I can’t wait for all we’ll learn together this year.
"The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future." – Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919)
