Why?
The faculty of the Highly Gifted Magnet is profoundly committed to the value of reading books. This seemingly innocuous activity is single-handedly responsible for improving students’ ability to write, reason and empathize. Additionally, the long stretches of solitude required to read a book will liberate students from the oppressive tyranny of cell phones. Finally, the act of reading a book will engage students in that most revolutionary of all human behaviors – imagination.
This curated list is composed of works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. All of these books should be available through the Los Angeles Public Library or through the LA County Library.
