We will be using Amplify CKLA  as our reading series this year. Second grade is pivotal in your child’s academic success.  This is when he/she needs to learn how to read with more independence and to gain information while reading.  By the end of the year, your child must be able to read 90 words per minute.  In order to do so, each child must read a minimum of 20 minutes per day.  If he/she struggles to read, it is okay for you, or a sibling, to read to him/her.  As the year progresses, he/she should begin reading more independently.

Eureka Math is a new series math series we will be using this year. Your child will become more confident with number sense skills and strategies, place value, solving more complex word problems strategies and much more. There will also be a strong focus on fluency with math facts.

The theme of second grade social studies is PEOPLE WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. We will be learning about the government, economics, and our ancestors.
