‘Your faithfulness endures to all generations’ (Ps 119:90)
Connecting missional leaders across generations is both historically and strategically at the heart of the Lausanne Movement. To that end, Lausanne has an intentional focus on building relationships across generational lines to form mutually edifying connections and partnerships between older and younger leaders.
Recognizing the need to connect and energise younger leaders around the world with the goal of accelerating the Great Commission Leighton Ford, former Chair of the Lausanne Movement, led the thrust for convening nearly 300 younger leaders from more than 60 nations in Singapore for the first Younger Leaders Gathering in 1987. Subsequent gatherings were held in Malaysia in 2006 and Jakarta in 2016. Today, engaging younger leaders is a mindset woven throughout the fabric of the Movement.
The Lausanne Younger Leaders Generation (YLGen) was launched in conjunction with the 2016 Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering (YLG2016) to walk alongside selected younger leaders, striving to connect them more intentionally to mentors, missional resources, and with each other through connect groups and gatherings, as well as to Lausanne’s issue networks and regional bodies.
We encourage you to explore initiatives like YLGen Equip, a database of relevant webinars and resources, the Mentor Directory, a searchable database of potential mentors for younger leaders, and YLGen Educate, which provides full-tuition scholarships to universities and seminaries for younger leaders from the Majority World. As you browse, please pray that YLGen would have the capacity and resources to extend YLGen to even more younger leaders around the world.
