Given the rapidly changing contexts in which we live, the calling together of global leaders from every region of the world is becoming increasingly vital. In some regions, there are the daily issues of conflict and war, terrorism and persecution, poverty and mass migration, stagnant economic development and deepening political crisis. In other regions, there is great openness and opportunity for church planting, evangelism, and welcome of refugees, migrants, and international students. And many regions have aspects of both.
In such a diverse and interconnected world, Lausanne places great emphasis on ensuring global representation in our leadership so that voices from every part of the earth can be heard. Polycentric leadership is thus one of the core tenets of Lausanne. The polycentric approach is uniquely suited to engage the leadership issues, challenges, and opportunities we face in the world today.
Lausanne has identified 12 regions of the world, and has appointed a Regional Director (RD) at the forefront of each region. The RD leads a team of pastors, lay leaders, and missionaries to develop effective strategies for gospel outreach within the context of the region. This is accomplished through means such as networking, regional consultations, and communications to and from the region.
Being a global movement entails facilitation and collaboration across language barriers as well as providing resources in major languages. Currently, our major communications (including many of our publications) are available in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean. In addition, language support is prioritised in our gatherings.
As you browse the regions below, let us remember the vision in Revelation of people from every nation, tribe, and tongue gathered before the throne of the Lamb. It is this vision we glimpse every time we gather, and it is this vision we labour together for and long to witness in full someday.
