Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

PEPA TOTS

This week was busy at Pepa Tots as we dived into diverse festivals and cultures. After our insight exploration of Diwali last week, we turned our attention to Thanksgiving, a cherished celebration both in America and Canada. Our activities included crafting a symbolic 'Thanksgiving' turkey and engaging in discussions about gratitude and what we each feel thankful for.

Our upcoming agenda promises a captivating journey into the  magic of Christmas. Alongside this cultural journey, our curious minds explored the world of animals that hibernate during autumn.

Together with their parents during our PYP afternoon, children crafted delightful hedgehogs, adding a touch of creativity to our learning adventures.

Maya Angelou

Year 3 have been busy this week learning a lot about plants and the importance of different parts of the plant. We started off our learning dissecting a flower, where the children took apart the flower and identified it on a printed flower. This continued as we further explored what would happen to celery if we added some food colouring into some water.  We also explored the idea of a dilemma through acting a part of our book The Great Kapok Tree, the children read part of the story and identified what the dilemma was and acted this out.

School information

LAT Swimming Gala

On Tuesday 21st November four children from year 5 took part in a swimming competition alongside a few of our academy schools.  The children engaged in a range of different swimming techniques, such as backstroke, freestyle and relay.  Throughout the morning they encouraged and supported each other by providing positive words.  The children had a fantastic time and were able to apply their learnt swimming technique from their lessons into the competition.  Well done!

Fantastic History Learning at PEPA

At Peninsula East, we are working hard to ensure all children get a broad and balanced curriculum. This week we have a spotlight on all of our fantastic History learning!

The children have been enjoying History across the school. In Year 1, children have been looking at changes in technology; in Year 2, children are studying explorers and will look at adventures that people have gone on throughout History and what they've discovered.

In Year 3, children are continuing learning about Stone age and Iron age; in Year 4 children are learning about Marie Curie as a significant individual in history.

Year 5 are looking at how the rights of women have changed throughout the years, in particular with the Suffragette movement (which links brilliantly to their class name, Emmeline Pankhurst!). Finally, Year 6 have a very exciting term as they are learning all about WWII and conflict over the years.

All of the children have been enjoying everything they've learnt so far and have enjoyed speaking to their peers and adults around the school all about their learning. At home, please do ask them about their History learning as I'm sure they will love to tell you everything about it!
