Signing

At Leigh Academy Milestone, we are passionate about supporting the children’s language and communication development. Signing is part of our Total Communication Approach. 

All our staff are trained and supported to be comfortable and confident communicators.  Staff are expected to be able to sign key words to support children’s understanding of spoken language, as well as to encourage the development of expressive language and communication. 

We have a dedicated signing team who are trained in Makaton levels 1-4 and are currently working towards the tutor training.  We have two licenced Makaton Tutors.
