Key worker childcare support

Accessing childcare during the COVID-19 crisis

This provision is only for current students of Leigh Academies Trust schools Years R - 11 (not Post 16)

Further to the announcement that was made by Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Education on Wednesday 18th March 2020, we regret to inform you that it will be necessary to close our academies with effect from the end of the day Friday 20th March 2020. This is a necessary decision to protect our pupils and staff at this very difficult time.

For those children of key service workers and vulnerable young people we are making arrangements for Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) academies to provide childcare with effect Monday 23rd March 2020. We will contact parents in respect of vulnerable students separately. This is part of the national effort to tackle the effects of this virus and support other essential services to undertake their crucial roles. Unfortunately, if in future, due to low staffing levels, we are unable to keep all of our academies open, parents may need to send their child to another local LAT academy. We apologise in advance should this be necessary and for the inconvenience it will undoubtedly cause. We thank you for your continued support and understanding in this difficult time.

This provision is only for current students of Leigh Academies Trust schools.

What is a 'Key Worker'?

A 'Key Worker', also known as a 'Critical Worker', is identified by government as a role which is critical to the COVID-19 response. A list of such roles, as defined by the government on 20th March 2020, can be found in the following link:

If you are a Key Worker seeking childcare for your child you will be asked to provide evidence of your position. Details will be provided by your child's academy.

I am a key worker, how do I apply for childcare?

If you believe that you meet the criteria to access childcare support, please complete the form below. This will allow us to assess the level of demand and plan accordingly. If you have more than one child within a LAT academy, please complete ONE FORM PER CHILD.

If possible, please complete your form by 5pm on Friday 20th March 2020 as this will enable us to ensure that we have the appropriate staff and resources in place for Monday 23rd March 2020. We recognise that this will not be possible for everyone, so we will keep the registration process open until 5pm, Sunday 22nd March 2020.
