Science
Department Chair: Stephanie Mitchell,
Los Alamos High School is implementing the NM STEM Ready! Standards based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The science curriculum follows the Physics First Model of science learning where conceptual physics is taught to 9th graders to build the foundation for the sciences. The chemistry taught to 10th graders builds on the concepts taught in physics. The biology taught to 11th graders is a biochemistry class with heavy emphasis on applying the previously-learned chemistry concepts to living organisms.
