◆ Students are introduced to the physical environments in which theatre takes place. Through class presentations, student projects, and practical work on productions, students learn about theatre organization, theatre spaces, basic types of scenery, common building materials, tool use and identification The fundamentals of scenic construction are explored. Students examine and work with a variety of building materials and tools but especially with lumber. Sound structural techniques are presented. Students work on creating scenery for current productions as well as special projects. Students are introduced to the organization, procurement, and construction of stage properties.

◆ Students examine basic stage tech/design practices, the physics of light and sound, biological reactions to light, sound and sets, audio and electric instrument mechanics, basic electricity, and design objectives and practices. The process of designing elements for a production is examined. This will include theatrical environments, concert venues and other corporate event spaces. The creation of light, set and sound plots, instrument schedules, ordering for rental or purchase of proper equipment and working with hired crews, as well as proper communication with Directors, Clients and Hired crews. Students learn to use and properly maintain tools and instruments associated with Lighting, Sound and Sets. Course will include guest designers and builders making connections within the theatre community locally.

◆ This is a general course designed to acquaint the student with a basic exposure and appreciation of various forms of theatre as an art form. The course covers major historical aspects of theatre such as important periods, written works, basics of acting using games and improvisation, types of theatre, and the various jobs and duties within the theatre business. Some of the areas that are discussed include direction, script writing, introduction to technical theatre elements and performance theatre elements, as well as current theatrical practices. The coursework includes theatre craft projects, attendance of live theatre performances. This is an introductory course students will be able to use this course to filter into the various advanced disciplines.
