Dear All,
I hope you had a lovely Easter Break and time with your families. I am delighted to be able to share our termly Lark Rise Sports Newsletter with you all again. This will also offer an opportunity for you to understand how you can get your children more involved in sports outside of school and what sports they have been doing over the spring term.
Over the Spring term, children have taken part in lots of different sports and activities they are as follows...
Reception: Gymnastics (fundamental movement skills) in Spring 1 and Dance/Yoga in Spring 2.
Year 1 and 2: Dodgeball and Gymnastics in Spring 1 and Yoga and Tri-Golf in Spring 2.
Year 3 and 4: Gymnastics and Basketball/Netball in Spring 1 and Multi-skills and Dance in Spring 2.
Year 5 and 6: Gymnastics and Hockey in Spring 1 and Football and Orienteering in Spring 2.
During the Autumn term we have attended a total of 13 competitions including the A team football finals. As a school we have decided to get involved in as many competitions as possible in order to allow a range of children to have an opportunity to represent themselves and the school. We hope that by the end of the year, if not time in their key stage, most children should have had the opportunity to take part in an inter-school competition. We are delighted to be involved in these inter-school competitions across our local and Trust schools. Our involvement supports the children's ability to work together as part of a team, build relationships and also develops their confidence, all vital skills to learn at primary school.
See below the competitions that I had the pleasure to be involved in last term.
Miss Klausner
On 14th January, some Year 5 & 6 children were selected to attend an inter school dodgeball competition. We took two teams to this event to provide opportunities for more children. They played extremely well and showed great sportsmanship towards other teams throughout. Well Done Boys!
On 28th January we attended a Panathlon at Dunstable Leisure Centre. The panathlon had lots of different sports and activities for the children to have a go at. The Panathlon sports included parachute popcorn, polybat, precision bean bag, new age kurling, boccia blast, flight path, skittles, slam dunk, Messi football skills and table cricket. These children had a great time. Well done!
On 11th February our Year 5 & 6 girls football A team got through the group stages of the league and were able to compete in the semi finals at Creasey Park, against Priory. We won against Priory and then went through to the Finals against The Vale Academy. Unfortunately we lost the finals game on penalties, but the girls played extremely well and were determined throughout showing all of our school values and great sportsmanship. Overall, the girls came 2nd place in the league which is a great achievement. Well done Girls!
On 24th February our Year 5 & 6 boys football A team also went through the group stages of the league and were able to compete in the semi finals at Creasey Park. In their semi-finals game they played agaisnt The Vale Academy where the game was 1-1 at full time meaning the game went to penalties; after many penalties we won on penalties and went through to the finals where we played against Caddington Village school, and unfortunately lost. Overall, the boys came 2nd place in the league which is a great achievement. Well done Boys!
On 4th March our Year 5 & 6 children went to a Flag Football practice event where they were able to practise the different plays they had been learning into game based situations against other schools. This was in preparation for the County Flag Football later in the month. All children learnt about the different plays and which ones to do at what time. This was a great learning experience for them. Well done!
On 11th March, some of our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children were selected to represent Lark Rise at a development dodgeball competition, the children got to play many dodgeball games and had lots of fun winning lots of games and showing good sportsmanship throughout.

On 18th March, our Year 3 and 4 children attended a development Tag Rugby competition at Caddington School, where they were able to put their skills into game based situations. The boys had a great time and had smiles on their faces throughout. Well done Boys.
On 20th March, both of our Flag Football teams played in the County Flag Football competition. One of our teams, the Lark Rise Lions, made it through to the finals where they had to play against The Vale Academy. At the end of the game it was a draw. This meant that both teams had to play for the one extra point which needed to be a passing play and both teams had to play for the two extra points that could have been a running or passing play. Overall, Lark Rise Lions won against The Vale Academy by just 1 point meaning that the Lark Rise Lions team will be going with Miss Klausner to Regionals in Cambridge on 1st May. Both teams played exceptionally well. So well done to both teams that played in the finals and onto the regionals. Well Done to everyone!

IMPORTANT
Just a reminder that in PE lessons, NO JEWELLERY is to be worn as it could cause an accident, also long hair MUST BE TIED UP, this is to reduce the risk of any hair pulls etc. If your child comes into a PE lesson with jewellery on and hair down, they will be asked to remove any items and tie hair back otherwise they will not be able to take part in the PE lesson.
