STEM Drone Course

Who: The Drone Summer Camp is open to all students who are interested in learning more about the use of drone technologies.

What:

The Drone Summer Camp will apply a problem-based learning curriculum designed to introduce students to the many real-world industries that employ the use of drone technology. The use of drone technology is a fast-growing sector of aviation with applications in shipping/delivery, engineering, agriculture, architecture, disaster relief, safety inspections, weather tracking, law enforcement, border security, mapping(surveying), scientific research, photography, and many more.

Each activity that students will perform is tied to a career that utilizes drones in some way. Students will learn how these careers use drones to accomplish a variety of tasks through simulated activities that build in complexity as the course progresses.

The course will cover a brief history of aviation, FAA rules and regulations for UAV flight, safety guidelines for UAVs, terminology, principles of traditional and quadcopter flight, how to manually operate the Tello Edu Drone, autonomous flight, and drone related careers.

Student progress will be monitored through their performance of preflight check and in-flight operations in addition to competitions with other students enrolled in the course.
