As of May 2025, we are not currently recruiting adult volunteers at Studio City. Patrons can also explore volunteer opportunities across LAPL through the Get Involved page or through the Adult Literacy program. When in doubt, advise interested patrons to email studio@lapl.org, and a librarian will reply.
Helping out around the branch:
The most common volunteer position at our branch is Collection Inventory Aide. These volunteers help pull materials from our shelves to fulfill holds requests at other branches. Our roster of Collection Inventory Aides is currently full.
Reading to children:
This program at LAPL is called STAR (Storytelling and Reading). Our roster of STAR volunteers is currently full, but we encourage patrons to inquire at other branches.
Fundraising/book sale:
The Friends of the Studio City Library fundraise for our branch, primarily through a monthly book sale. Members generally volunteer weekly to sort through donations and prepare for the book sale. As of May 2025, the Friends are not actively recruiting for new members. When in doubt, check with Albert.
Tutoring adults/helping adults learn English:
Refer patrons to volunteer with the Adult Literacy program. This is coordinated at the system level, not at our branch. Different positions are available, including one-on-one tutor and conversation class teacher.
Tutoring children:
LAPL works with partners to offer tutoring services for K-12 students, but the staffing is not managed by LAPL and the tutors are not volunteers.
Advise interested patrons to email studio@lapl.org, and the YA librarian will reply.
Teens ages of 11-19 can join the Studio City Library Teen Council. Members typically meet twice a month (once in person and once virtually). Projects may include working with library staff on planning events for teens and purchases for the teen collection.
Members of the Teen Council may also do additional volunteering in-person at the library. This could include helping at particular programs or volunteering 1 hour a week to do various projects around the library.
