LAPL offers computer bundles and Wi-Fi hotspots that can be checked out through our Tech2Go program. Neither are available at this branch, but we can assist patrons in placing holds for these materials.
Each bundle contains a laptop (Chromebook device) and a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect to the internet. The checkout period is 6 months.
There are about 25 participating locations. A bundle must be checked out and returned at the same location.
When searching CARL, search for keyword "ECF chromebook." There is a separate record in CARL for each location, so you can include a branch code to narrow down your search.
How to place holds:
Patron can place a hold for themself through the online catalog. They should search the catalog for "chromebook [branch name]" (see example). They must set the pickup location as the branch that owns the bundle. We can also do this for the patron by logging into their account online.
We cannot place a hold for a patron in CARL, because we are not one of the participating locations. We could call a participating location and ask them to place a hold for the patron.
Patron can visit one of the participating locations and ask staff there to place a hold for them.
The checkout period is 6 weeks. Wi-Fi Hotspots can be placed on hold and delivered to any location.
When searching CARL, search for keyword "Wifi Hotspot" or CARL BID 6252037. All Wi-Fi Hotspots are on the same record in CARL.
How to place holds:
Patron can place a hold for themself through the online catalog. They should search the catalog for "wifi hotspot" (see catalog record). They can set the pickup location to any branch.
In CARL, we can place a hold for a patron using the standard process.
