Why Lanner House

Lanner House Independent School has always done its best to provide a quality, holistic education that lets children be who they are. During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lanner House was one of the first schools allowed to open early on campus due to its ability to adapt and provide a safe learning environment for the learners and staff.

Lanner House is an English medium, Christian school that encourages children to be themselves based on Christs image of who they are. Having a small, family orientated classroom means the teachers are able to focus on what they love about teaching and that is focusing on guiding and nurturing the children.

Situated in Worcester in the beautiful Breede River Valley of the Western Cape, our school provides education for children from turning 2 year old's to Grade 12. We are passionate about education and believe that every child should be given the opportunity to develop in all areas of personal growth. We stand by the belief that children are on an exciting adventure as they grow up and that we have the privilege of guiding and equipping them for future success.

Our motto, “Learning, Growing, Becoming," is testimony to our belief that every child is blessed with their own unique potential to achieve. Our small classes give every child the opportunity to learn in their own particular style and to grow in knowledge, values and skills.

Each learner from Grade 1 upwards participates in weekly physical education and sport lessons as well as having the opportunity to learn new skills and acquire knowledge through the various extra-mural clubs on offer.

During 2020`s Covid-19 pandemic and the South African hard lockdown, our school set up an immediate website for our learners to continue online learning. They were not only able to keep up with their learning, but were also in many areas found to be ahead. With the rest of the country resorting to a “trimmed down” curriculum, our learners were ahead on a more comprehensive curriculum.

Our Music Academy gives every learner weekly music lessons. Annual music concerts give our budding musicians the opportunity to perform in front of their peers and parents.

Our Drama Academy gives our learners the opportunity to develop their self-confidence, life-skills and public speaking competence through weekly drama lessons (Grade 1 to 12). The highlight of the year being their Drama Production where various aspects of the years’ work are presented.

Our academic program is based on the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) issued by the National Department of Education, supplemented with the latest eLearning materials. Our qualified, SACE registered teaching staff provide a learning environment that is both supportive and challenging.

We also have a partnership with Lighthouse of Joy Aftercare and Holiday Centre that provides our children with daily care on completion of their normal school day. A set daily routine is followed which includes a meal time, homework time for older learners, a nap time for younger children, as well as stimulating activities based on weekly themes.

We believe that children learn best when their unique abilities are supported in the classroom. Lanner House is registered with the Western Cape Education Department and accredited with Umalusi to ensure quality and transparent assurance. This gives you peace that what we do is not only inline with the South African CAPS curriculum, but also aimed at ensuring your child can leave in Grade 12 with a National Senior Certificate (Matric certificate) for them to study further at a tertiary institution (university).

We engender a strong Christian ethos within our school, however our school is open to all faiths and we demonstrate God’s grace and love for all of His children.
