The Backpack Program

What is a backpack food program?

Backpack food programs provide nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food on weekends when they can't depend on school meals to avoid hunger.

Every backpack food program is unique to the community and school it serves. By providing kids with the nutrients they need when they're away from school, they show up on Monday morning healthy and ready to learn.

At Gannett Peak, we offer food bags for families who need extra assistance. The bags are prepared and put in student lockers on Thursday evening so students can take them home each Friday. There is no cost to sign up for the program and families can opt to cancel their bag at any time.

If you would like to sign up for the backpack program, please call or email your school counselors at Gannett Peak Elementary!
