Autumn Term Newsletter #8
7th November 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been back with a bang this week enjoying a wide range of learning opportunities: Y6 were at Vicarage Road to Show Racism the Red Card on Tuesday; Y1 explored the evolution of toys in their workshop yesterday; Y5 have begun the Joy of Moving programme with Watford FC this morning and Rachel from Serge Hill has been working with the Eco Council to beautify our school grounds! All of this combined with our ever-improving curriculum offer. It is great to see such a breadth of provision for our pupils.
Values: This week children were encouraged to be the 'spark' of responsibility within their classes helping others to do what is right. In Celebration Assembly, we recognised children who are role models to their peers and have driven improvements this week. Next week, linked to Anti-Bullying Week and Remembrance Day, our value is appreciation as we celebrate difference and remember those who gave us this freedom.
Votes for Schools: A topical question provoked some passionate discussions in class this week as children considered: Could you go screen-free for a day? (KS1) and Would you benefit from a digital detox? (KS2). The general concensus across school suggested not and this is useful reflection for staff and parents. As adults from a generation who knew life before smart phones, we have a very different perspective to children born in the digital age.
Anti-Bullying Week: Next week is Anti-Bullying Week and the theme will be: Power for Good. All of the classes will be working though activities provided by the Anti Bullying Alliance. Their provision includes a really useful parent information pack which links with the materials we will be using in school and you might find useful for any discussions at home.
School Photos: Individual and sibling photos will take place on Monday. Please ensure children come to school in their correct uniform. Those doing PE can bring their kit and get changed at school. After the photos, children will bring home a QR code which you will need to order prints.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend. Be sure to remember your Odd Socks for Monday morning!
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Children’s attitude to learning has been recognised through the collection of dojo points, which are then totalled as house points across the school. Every child continues to show their commitment to being Ready, Respectful and Resilient, earning points for their house. Each half term the points are reset and a new competition begins. This week Sharman have taken the lead by the narrowest of margins from Alhazen. Congratulations to everyone involved. Every point represents a moment of success this term.
Here’s how the points stand:
1st: Sharman with 470 points
2nd: Alhazen with 469 points
3rd: Curie with 459 points
4th: Carver with 431 points
Let’s keep up the great work and continue to support each other as we aim for the top!
Class News
This half term reception are looking at the story Baby Mouse as our Talk for Writing stimulus. This week we have been learning the specific vocabulary from the story in order for us to understand the story better. The children participated in different activities to show what each word meant, as well as producing their first piece of writing. In maths, we have been looking at one more and one less using songs and rhymes to aid our understanding.
Year 1 were fully immersed in their Toys Over Time workshop this week! As part of our history unit on Technology Over Time, the children explored a range of old and new toys to become toy experts. They had great fun digging for hidden toys like archaeologists and even had the chance to become toy makers themselves! It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought history to life and helped the children see just how much toys have changed through the years.
This week, our Year 2/3 children kicked off their persuasive writing unit with a touch of magic! Equipped with their very own 'Magic Selling Potion', the children set out to transform ordinary objects- like a simple sponge- into must-have treasures. With a sprinkle of imagination and a dash of persuasive language, our budding advertisers crafted their own TV advert that would make any salesperson proud.
Year 4 has settled back in wonderfully after the half-term break! In English, we have been exploring recount writing through fun short-burst activities. Our Ancient Egypt topic has sparked great curiosity, and the children enjoyed creating a timeline linking British and world history. We also had an inspiring author visit from Ryan Crawford, which really sparked the children's creativity, and a fantastic robotics assembly that got everyone excited about technology. A big thank you for all the amazing Egyptian homework projects- they have been fantastic to see!
A huge shout-out and well done to Year 5 for the truly out-of-this-world creative homework! Your mixed media solar system projects were absolutely stellar and we were amazed by your imagination and creativity. From planets made of ping-pong balls to rockets zooming past starry skies made of glitter and paint, every single project was unique, detailed, and completely brilliant. It was fantastic to see how you used so many different materials to bring the wonders of space to life at home!
This week, a Year 6 pupils visited Vicarage Road for a Show Racism the Red Card event. They took part in a rotation of activities, including a game-based workshop and a stadium tour.
A highlight was a Q&A with an England Cricket Player. Our pupils were Ready to ask thoughtful questions. They showed Respect by listening carefully and demonstrated Resilience when discussing difficult topics. They returned inspired and eager to keep inclusion at the heart of our school.
This week: Mr Kinsella was part of a Trust-wide working party developing the next stage of our geography curriculum with colleagues from the other primary schools; Mr Bristow was at Dehavilland School sharing his maths expertise with the leadership team; I was at 'Positive Regard' training along with other leaders from the Trust as we look to refine our systems around behaviour and regulation for pupils.
Welcome back to school. We hope you’ve had a great half term and are ready for a fun filled half term!
