Lots of Fun at RHE Library

Mrs. Remekie is the library assistant at Rolling Hills Elementary library. Although she is new to the library, she has taken up the mantra of the library and has truly brightened it with her love for students and her love of her staff.

Book Tasting by Genre

It’s an exciting week here at Rolling Hills Elementary School. Our Career and Literacy Week began with guest readers sharing books with our students in the classroom and the library. Off to a raving start, our Book Tasting was presented by our reading coach Mary Thompson and assisted by the library assistant, Linell Remekie who gave students the opportunity to “taste” the fervent flavors of diverse genres. The Rolling Hills Library sparkles, adorned as a restaurant, complete with place settings and flowers. Students enjoyed moving from table to table exploring diverse genres and exploring books they may never have experienced previously.

How to Write from a Professional's point of view on Career Day!

On Tuesday morning the air was heated with excitement as various authors revealed, not only their books, but also their stories, during our Author’s Showcase. Many of our guest speakers discussed their inspiration in addition to the process of bringing their stories from humble beginnings, through the publishing process and into fruition. Author Cherlyn Jernigan took us on an adventure with Lunchbox Louis, while we learned to “Love Your Jiggle” with author Shanterra McBride. The “POWER” of writing was presented by Tamira Wade, who perked the writing enthusiasm of our third graders.

As our Author’s showcase continued, the afternoon promised even more excitement as authors Sharmetra Lewis of Pleasant Run Elementary, Keysha Chester and Reyvoida Richardson assisted our students in their adventure. They embarked on the thrilling adventure of writing and storytelling. Electricity was in the air as our students got to see how reading and writing can result in a career that is both fruitful and exhilarating. Coming from various walks of life, we appreciate the authors that took the time to share their work, and their lives, with our scholars.
