Lancaster Head Start/Early Head Start is a quality comprehensive early childhood education program for pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and children ages 3-5 years old. We provide Head Start and Early Head Start services in early learning, health, and family well-being through our center based and home based options.
Lancaster Head Start/Early Head Start is continuously recruiting families throughout the year. Applicants MUST reside in Lancaster County to be eligible for our program. Applying does NOT guarantee your child a slot. Selections are based on eligibility and the needs of the child. Before applying please read the requirements that are needed below.
Proof of Age / Long Form Birth Certificate
Early Head Start - Child must be an infant or a toddler younger than three years old or a pregnant mother.
Head Start - Child must be 3 or 4 years of age by September 1st of the current school year.
Proof of Residency
The applicant must reside in Lancaster County. Two (2) proofs of residency, utility bill and mortgage/lease/tax receipt, must be provided. Please let us know if you are experiencing any type of hardship.
Proof of Income
Total money earned or received before deductions for the past 12 months (W2, check stub, etc.).
Proof of Insurance
Medicaid Card or Private Insurance (if applicable)
Immunization / Well-Child Document
Up-to-date South Carolina Immunization
Current well-child check including blood lead levels
Proof of Public Assistance
Documentation of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Proof of Pregnancy
Pregnant women applying for Early Head Start Home-based must provide documentation from physician or ObGyn.
