My name is Mark Sheppard, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Taylor Creek Elementary. After retiring from the United States Army in 2013 following 25 years of service, I began my journey in education because I have always believed in serving others and helping people grow. Before becoming principal, I taught self-contained 5th Grade and junior high Pre-Algebra, experiences that deepened my appreciation for the impact educators have on students every single day.

I recently completed my second year as principal, and I can confidently say that Taylor Creek Elementary is a special place. Here, we believe every student deserves to learn in an environment where they feel safe, valued, supported, and challenged. We care deeply about academic growth, but we also believe in caring for the whole child beyond the TEKS. Our goal is for students, staff, and families to feel that Taylor Creek is more than a school — it is a home.

Education has always been the great equalizer in my life. It helped me transition from how I grew up into opportunities I never imagined possible. Because of that, I believe strongly in creating opportunities, relationships, and experiences that help students discover their own potential and future success.

At Taylor Creek, we are proud of the culture we continue building together. From our Tree Legacy Program, where students leave a permanent mark on our campus, to our Master’s Program focused on growth and achievement, to our military-connected student leadership opportunities, we strive to create meaningful experiences students will remember long after they leave our halls. We are also proud of our strong family atmosphere among staff, our renewed PTSO and growing parent involvement, and the positive attitudes that define our campus culture.
