Mrs. Staci Newell
Sophomore & Junior Counselor
Hello! My name is Staci Newell and I will be working primarily with the 10th and 11th grade students of Lakeside High School this year.
This is my 24th year in education and I have been super blessed to serve Lakeside students for the past 22 years of my career, first as a business education teacher and now I am delighted to serve as a high school counselor.
I look forward to another great year! Please do not hesitate to let me know what I can do for you!
The Importance of Grades
Every grade you make, freshman through senior year, will impact your college plans. Almost every aspect of college admission is connected to grades in some way-whether it’s your ranking for admission or the amount of financial aid you’ll receive. Study hard and make good grades, the effort you put into your academic endeavors will certainly pay off in the long run.
Colleges care about which courses you are taking in high school.
The courses you take in high school show colleges what kind of goals you set for yourself. Are you signing up for advanced classes, honors sections, or accelerated sequences? Are you choosing electives that really stretch your mind and help you develop new abilities? Or are you doing just enough to get by?
Colleges will be more impressed by respectable grades in challenging courses than by outstanding grades in easy ones.
