The landmark and beloved Cuthbert Amphitheater was leaking badly in 2012 and required roof and structural repair. LAKersh was hired to take on the project and prepare construction documents for significant shell improvements that needed to be completed without interfering with future planned performances.
| CUTHBERT AMPHITHEATER SHELL RENOVATION
The need for careful research regarding replacement materials, sensitivity to a historically interesting design and interface with both municipal and entertainment management personnel presented a challenge and opportunity for LAKersh.
Detail...was the name of the game for this project. Once the deteriorated existing metal roof was removed, our requirements for a square foot based replacement of sheathing and rotted beams were completed and the new, site bent and vented metal roof system, was installed.
The reuse of existing fascia embellishments was specified and accomplished. The addition of new collector and downspout detailing was installed to route water away from performers. Concrete piers were refinished and the surface water was routed away from paths to the stage.
The $400,000 dollar project was competed successfully in 2013, without delay to the upcoming performance season. The newly renovated facility is ready to withstand the test of time for many years to come.
