Welcome
This will be an amazing year of learning and exploring. Please send me any and all questions, concerns, and feedback. Again, I look forward to a great kindergarten year and let’s work together to provide an excellent educational experience for your child.

How to get your child independently ready for kindergarten
Teach them how to lose. They're not always going to win games, they're not always going to be first and we don't want students to believe it's the most important thing to be first because they rush which creates a stressor and anxiety. I encourage you to play a board game with your child prior to the start of school and beat them. Teach them that they're going to win the board game sometimes and that's okay.
Expression. Communication is essential and we want to make sure that we continue to foster and grow communication throughout the year. Practice with your child in having them express themselves and what they are feeling. My number one job is to keep them safe and happy but, I can't do that if they're unable to tell me what they're feeling. Questions are powerful, "What are you feeling right now?", "How are you feeling right now?" or "Why are you feeling this way?".
Independence = snack and lunch. At least two weeks prior to the start of school I encourage you to work with your child in opening and operating their lunchbox. You can simply pack their lunch as you would for school - kids will be so excited to prepare for school! This includes packaged treats, to ensure they can open them all by themselves. Practice will build confidence.
Restroom use and independence. Can they use the restroom independently? Can they manipulate their pants? Can they wipe themselves? Do they understand how to use the restroom (i.e. put toilet paper in the toilet)? This can make for an excellent incentive for your child leading up to the first week of school. I encourage you to start early so that you too are comfortable and at ease with this exciting transition for your little one.
Separating from your child. This is a must if your child has not attended preschool or had daycare or childcare. Start with small increments of time building up to at least 4-5 hours so they have a smooth transition into kindergarten here at Lagunita.
