High School Math

Dear Student, Parent or Guardian,

I would like to take a few moments of your time to introduce myself and tell you that I am excited to be working with your child this semester. I hold a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and a minor in Multi-Media and Communications. I am currently working on my PhD in General Psychology with an Emphasis in Integrating Technology, Learning, and Psychology. This education has prepared me to assist your child with studies related to the wonders of math. I found a love for teaching while working in the computer field for almost thirty years, finding deep satisfaction in helping others understand things that they might generally find difficult, or fear. I believe that every child deserves the respect of every teacher and also deserves to learn from someone who cares deeply about his or her education and ability to function effectively in the workforce. Over the course of this year, I would like to help your child find a passion for math while building confidence in his or her developing skills as a mathematician.

I am equally excited to be working in a part of the world that I once occupied as a student. I grew up in La Grande and chose to raise my own children here. I graduated from La Grande High and am a proud Tiger. I am deeply rooted in Eastern Oregon and recognize that your child represents the future of our region, as well as the ever-demanding world at large. Your son or daughter deserves an education that will prepare your child for what the future holds, and with your help, I will do everything in my power to assist in that preparation.

Over the course of this year, I will be focusing on advanced math. I believe that challenge is an integral part of learning. I will also be spending time offering connection between this curriculum and more advanced mathematics that exists in the real world. As a math teacher, I want my students to understand the breadth of what math they might see in their everyday life, as that adds their personal connection to what they see in class.

If you ever have comments, questions, or concerns, please know that I am available to you and your child for phone calls, meetings, or any assistance that you feel would help your family attain your child’s educational goals. To schedule a meeting or contact me, please use the following:

Sincerely,
