You will often be asked to upload an .MP4 file to the LMS throughout the filmmaking program. If you are not familiar with this task or even how to export your video projects, this step-by-step guide is for YOU!

The .MP4 video file type is one of the most common formats in the filmmaking world. From film festivals to YouTube, the .MP4 is used because it delivers excellent quality in a small and transmissable way.

Step-by-Step in Adobe Premiere

STEP 1

After you have clips arranged in your timeline and are ready to output your edit, go to the FILE menu on the top toolbar and select EXPORT > MEDIA

STEP 2

In the export settings box, go to the FORMAT option and use the drop down to select H.264.

Notice the blue highlighted clip name next to the OUTPUT NAME option. Because we selected .H264 as the format above, the file extension automatically changed to .MP4

STEP 3

CLICK on the blue highlighted clip name next to OUTPUT NAME and rename your file to match the assignment you are working on. (Example: Burket_C_Project1_DFM170)

STEP 4

BEFORE YOU PRESS SAVE, make sure to navigate to the folder you want the file to save in. I have created an OUTPUT folder using the external drive so that I know where it will be going. It's a good idea to AVOID saving files on your desktop and route all exports to a dedicated folder on your external hard drive.

STEP 5

Check your exported file. Navigate to the folder you exported to and ensure that the file is the correct length and that the file extension (end of the file) shows .MP4

STEP 6

Upload your video to the LMS. Click on the video camera icon in the LMS feedback box to open the .MP4 uploader. Click on DRAG & DROP and navigate to the .MP4 file you created. After it uploads, select INSERT to place in on the page. Don't forget to hit SEND when posting your feedback to the LMS.
