Algebra 1

ALGEBRA 1 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT CLASS IN YOUR MATH CAREER.

In this class, we will lay the foundation for all future math courses. Students with a strong understanding of mathematical concepts presented in this course will be in a favorable position to be successful in future math courses. You will be challenged, we will make mistakes, and we will be smarter, wiser, and better for it!

MATERIALS NEEDED EVERYDAY

  • Plenty of Pencils and Pens
  • 2 Expo Dry-Erase Markers - dark, easily visible colors only
  • Three-ring binder (at least 1" size) with loose-leaf paper and a folder
  • Calculator (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and square roots is all you need) - you will not be able to use your iPad calculators on assessments.
  • Charged laptop (school-issued only)

EXTRA HELP

I am available most mornings from 7-7:30 AM, most afternoons from 2:30-3:00 PM, and during Seminar in Room 2386. It is best practice to email me to ensure that I will be there.

MISSED CLASS?

  1. Be prepared for next class. If there is a test or quiz scheduled for the next class, you are expected to take the quiz or test on the scheduled day with the class.
  2. Check the class Google Classroom to see what was missed.
  3. Copy the notes from a classmate and complete the homework.
  4. Stop by and see Mr. Farrell before school to discuss what was missed and ask any questions that you may have.

MISSED ASSESSMENTS

All make-up assessments (tests, quizzes) will be administered in the Testing Center (location to be determined later due to construction). You will have 2 Seminar Periods to make up the assessment. If this is not completed within the given time frame, you will be given a 0 (school policy).

GRADING BREAKDOWN

  • Tests/Quizzes: 80%; Semester Final: 20%
  • Homework does not count in to your grade, but it will be checked, you will receive feedback, and your completion will be recorded in Infinite Campus.
  • Homework completion will be recorded as follows: 0 = Missing, 1 = Incomplete/work not shown, 2 = Completed with all work shown.

SEMESTER FINAL

Final exams in this course cover only the material from that semester.

You have the opportunity to replace test grades on the final exam. For example:

  • You earn a 72% on the Chapter 1 Test in September.
  • Later, you earn a 88% on the Chapter 1 Section of the Final Exam in December.
  • Your Chapter 1 Test grade will be changed to an 88%.
  • You will still receive an overall grade for the combined sections of the semester final exam.
