Instrument, Bow, and Case
Renting an instrument from a local music store is highly encouraged. There are also a limited number of instruments available from the school for rent (please talk to Mr. Mayer for details).
Rosin
Violin, Viola, Cello: Light or Dark Rosin (ask Mr. Mayer for suggestions)
Double Bass: Pop's Bass Rosin or comparable rosin (ask Mr. Mayer for suggestions)
Shoulder Rest for Violin and Viola
Everest and Kun are great brands!
Rockstop / Endpin Anchor for cello and bass
An endpin anchor strap is highly recommended for cello. Basses will want a puck type rockstop or a crutch tip (ask Mr. Mayer for additional slipping endpin solutions).
Music Stand
Please make sure you have a music stand at home.
Tuner / Metronome
insTuner Free is available from Self Service on school devices. It is also available on the app store for personal cell phones/tablets.
Metronome+ is available from Self Service on school devices
A tuner and metronome can also be purchased. Korg is an excellent brand.
Tonal Energy Tuner ($5 app) This is the best $5 I have ever spent on an app. Best tuner and metronome app available.
Pencils
Be sure you have a pencil for every class and every lesson
Concert Attire
Method/Lesson Books
Lesson and Method books may be suggested by Mr. Mayer for students throughout the year. Typical costs are between $10 and $20 per book.
