TRANSFORMING INTO A COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Baldwin Park High School is one of the 16 schools that has partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) for the Community Schools Initiative. A Community School is any school serving pre-Kindergarten through high school students using a “whole-child” approach, with “an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement." As a school improvement strategy, community school initiatives enable the local educational agency (LEA) and school to work closely with educators, students, and families to understand and address the unique needs, assets, and aspirations of the school community. In other words, it is a model that collaborates with community partners to ensure that all students have what they need to succeed. We acknowledge that students cannot learn unless their basic needs are met first.  Therefore, as we transform into a Community School, one of our goals is to share with you community resources that may be of support to students and families.
