Mr Beast’s rise on YouTube has unintended consequences as other YouTubers try to imitate him
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but what happens when it directly hurts the original and makes content on YouTube as a whole feel monotonous and bland? This is part of the influence that MrBeast has had on the YouTube platform as he has taken YouTube from small-scale people in their bedrooms to multi-million dollar projects spanning several months. MrBeast has achieved peak online sensation status, securing the second most subscribed YouTube channel and a massive worldwide presence due to his foreign language channels. As a result of success like his, being a Youtuber is no longer a niche on the internet and is a genuine profession with dozens of team members behind them. However, this has opened a new avenue to low-effort imitators who lack both ambition and effort as a way to reach the top. This lack of quality and innovation can be especially seen in the unoriginality of imitating thumbnails.
The first type of MrBeast imitating thumbnail has the YouTuber face right in the center, this style of thumbnail works well in conveying the concept of the video but in my personal opinion, they are kind of an eye sore with the thumbnail is heavily edited with bright colors to burn a toddler's retinas into subscribing and hitting that notification bell. These types of video thumbnails are somewhat original and change to fit the YouTuber's style of content but they lack any type of personal touch that makes the YouTuber stand out as seen below.
The second type of MrBeast Imitating thumbnail, seen below, is straight-up plagiarized. The already personality lacking thumbnail style of MrBeast when plagiarized makes you lose even more touch with the creator as it is not them at all and they are simply 1 to 1 with a new face making the site blend together and degrades the overall quality of YouTube, making unique content harder to find.
Despite these side effects of MrBeast’s success, I believe YouTube is headed on a good path and ultimately his contributions to the site can not be undermined. At no fault that his own, imitators have led YouTube to be the same content recycled over and over, and it's boring for everyone involved and its apparent that YouTube needs to step in and we need to support the original to ensure the longevity of Youtube.
