KAST is listed with the IRA as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. As such, it returns received moneys in excess of its operating budget and contingency funds directly to its members and other organizations through grants and services. Funds are obtained through membership dues, profits from KAST's events and conferences, and through direct donations from vendor partners through KAST's Sponsor program.
KAST Outreach is the branded grants and services arm of KAST. The grant application window runs from September through December, with winners announced in February. The grant goals and amounts change somewhat from year to year, but generally match the interests of KAST's charter. Other services include student scholarships awarded to Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) applicants, and other interests.
